Was thinking what biscornu to do for July, and eventually saw nice daisy lovely growing near the road, when i was walking home. And yeah, here we go - Daisy Bisconu came up. I found this design on russian site called club.osinka.ru. Im absolutely happy with finished work. Ooops... A Daisy! :)

I thought I’d try a few specialty stitches this month. I pretty much stick exclusively to cross stitch and blackwork, so this was something of an experiment for me. I used:

- Rhodes squares
- Rhodes butterflies
- Algerian eyes
- Ray stitch
- French knots

I’m not particularly fond of French knots and thought it was about time I got over my dislike, so I decided to add quite a few to this design! I almost wimped out and used beads, but in the end, I plucked up the courage to go the whole hog and do the knots. I’m quite pleased with how they turned out and by the end of it; I think I’d finally got a bit more comfortable with doing them. I’m still not overly fond of them, but I know now that if it’s required, I can do them and not have them look completely dreadful!

I used two sparkly fabrics I received in a Polstitches grab bag. Both are 28-count linens, but one is a light tangerine colour, the other is pale lemon, and they moth have a slightly mottled effect. In order to have a bright and contrasting biscornu, I chose to do my stitching in bright pink and orange. I had bought two little gold butterfly buttons for the centre, but as I decided to stitch over one instead of over two (as I had originally planned), they were too large for this project and I used two orange beads instead. Those little butterflies will definitely get used at some point in the future though – they’re too pretty to leave!

So, here I am, half way through the year with half of my biscornu finished!

For May I decided to stitch up Barbara Ana's "Frogscornu" biscornu, and used a Silkweaver Solo I had in the stash. It looked "swampy" to me! I love the look of "frog scorn" on his face, and hope he scares away the frogs that visit way too frequently!

I have been very busy with house repairs/painting and finally got to post pics of my last two biscornu for March and April. May is in the works as I write.

For March I stitched the Winter Wonderland Biscornu from Cat's Whiskers and Dinky-Dyes.

For April, it was the Luna Park Biscornu from Dinky-Dyes as well.

I thought I'd give a 15-faced biscofleur a try as I'd made a regular 15-sided biscornu before, but admired the "tulip" shape of the biscofleur. It was a lot simpler to put together than I had thought it would be.

I designed five blackwork faces and stitched three of each, with the exception of the fifth design, of which I stitched only two and replaced the third with a simple blackwork border around my name and the date.

I had planned on stitching this biscornu design in the original purples, but when I chose my fabric, which had shades of pink and yellow through it, the raspberry tones looked better and I changed my plans. The design is stitched two over one.

I had spotted an unusual 6-faced biscornu at the Stitch Creations blog and resolved to try one myself. It turned out to be very simple to do – as long as you have an even number of stitches for your back-stitch border you can do this easily as the four smaller pieces have to be exactly half the height and width of the larger ones. You then stitch each of the small faces onto a large face with the point of the small face at the centre of the large one. Then you attach the second large face and you’re done.

The design for the small faces is one I stitched off the top of my head in keeping with the design of the larger faces and one of them has “Kell, April 2010″ stitched on it instead of the pattern.

My second biscornu of the year is a pattern which I designed myself. Because the design on the front is very intricate, I left the reverse almost completely blank with only a star motif in the centre and at each corner, and the details of my name, the month and the year. The silver beads were taken from a necklace I had which broke. They were so pretty I had to save them and I thought the silver went well with the turquoise of the stitching.

The border on both the front and reverse are stitched in two strands, but the rest of the design and the text is all stitched in a single strand.

My first biscornu of the year for my Basket of Biscornu challenge. I used only the central part of the design from my Pattern-a-Day Cross Stitch Calendar for 3rd December and chose to stitch it in Madeira silks in soft pastel shades of blue, lilac and silvery grey. On the reverse, I left one quarter of the central design unstitched and instead stitched:

The zig-zag border on both the front and reverse are stitched in two strands, but the rest of the design and the texgt is all stitched in a single strand.

Hi everyone well only two and a half months left well done to everyone (not me, lol) who has managed to produce a biscornu every month, there have been some stunning designs. I was thinking for December to maybe set a target to have your December biscornu done by midnight on December 24th Christmas Eve that way I can do the draw for Christmas Day, anyone who doesn't want to do this please let me know.

I have decided for next year to leave the blog running as a kind of gallery so anyone wanting to post their biscornu pictures or anyone wanting to do their own biscornu SAL please feel free to do so. Here is my final December biscornu. The pattern is from TGOS magazine, issue 23 (dec. 2007). It's rather small, only 2 inches, and it completes both my blackwork set of three peices (a 15-sided biscornu, a zigougou and a biscornu) and this 12 months project.

And these are all 12 biscornus I've made during this year. It was a great pleasure to participate. Thank you all of you for this project, for going all the way and congratulations to those who have made it to this point!

My biscornus usually live in the basket, but I took them out and spread them on the table so that they all could be seen nicely.

I love to see red cardinals among green pine boughs on a blanket of snow and ice, in my backyard so I had to stitch this pattern. The old darner belonged to my mom. The pattern is by "Kittyandme" Designs and is available on http://www.etsy.com/. I used 28ct white sparkly linen, DMC thread, and clear beads clustered along the edge. My basket is complete, though I gave one to a friend. Every month I look forward to seeing the new and creative biscornu's you've all stitched. You are all such talented stitchers! I found this "Snowflake Ballet" pattern in the "Gift of stitching" magazine, issue 46 and thought it would make a nice biscornu.
I used 32ct. taupe Lugana and stitched with rayon and pearlescent effects dmc floss. Added some beads, ribbon, snowflake buttons and 4 bicone beads.

My last December biscornu is also ready, I'll be posting again soon.

Here it is...the 12th and final biscornu for the Basket of Biscornu 2009! All but four of them were freebies from the web, and I used stash to stitch all but those four.

This one is by Maria del Valle and is called the Lynne Biscornu. I did the back more simply with just the heart motifs in the corners. Fabric is 22ct white hardanger, with varigated red DMC.

Almost forgot to take the "before" picture!

And here is my whole basket of 12 months of biscornu! This was lots of fun, and thanks for the inspiration to everyone involved!

This month I did Trillium's Maple Leaf biscornu (from her Sept. biscornu). It was so much fun to stitch. I stitched it on 14 count fiddler's cloth. I used silk, bamboo and variegated floss. I then used mini bugle beads and leaf charms on the edges. I am sending this to my friend in Phoenix because he misses the changing of the fall leaves and fall weather in general.

This is Fabulous Fall by Cat's Whisker's in collaboration with Dinky-Dyes. Silk was included in the chartpack. It is stitched on Silkweaver's Tawny Sparkle 32ct opalescent belfast.

Biscornu with wool applique on linen. Design by Elizabeth Talledo - Dames of the Needle. It came as a kit. I'd never done applique before. Stitches used are: longarm cross, stem, back stitch, tack, wrapped stem, and straight stitch. It's filled it with wool roving (wool keeps the needles clean). Done on lambswool linen. It's stiffer than "regular" linen and nice to stitch on.

Whew! Finished this one just in time to post on Halloween! This Owl Biscornu was a freebie on the Stitch-Creations blog, by M. Brouwer. I used some aida and DMC, varigated on one side, plain on the other.

This was in my stash for a year and I am very happy to finally finish it. One side is autumn and the other is winter. I used "Olde Willow" hand-dyed threads on 32ct linen with MH beads, just as the chart says. Design by "mtvdesigns.com". I found the pins at the LNS. I beaded the edge as follows: 1 stitch with 1 bead, next stitch with 2 beads, pattern is 1-2-1-2-1... Now I have to answer the door for trick-or-treaters...

Stitched on Cream evenweave with variegated Caron threads cannot remember the colour.

For this biscornu I use by part of sampler by gazette94, one of my favorite designers. I choose autumn rusty multicolor thread. Looks like real late autumn design. I decorated it with beads sewn into the biscornu seam and around the center bead. I really like the result.

I am calling this one Rose and Dragonfly. The charts are from the Cross-stitch a day calendar from 2008 (I think that is the year). It is stitched 2 over 1 on a 14 count mint green fabric. It is HUGE compared to my other biscornu. It is 80x80 stitches.

I did a second biscornu this month stitched 2 over 1 on 14 count red aida. This is taken from Cross Stitch Crazy issue 130. This is a tiny biscornu. I think it was 30x30 stitches.

Here is my October biscornu - "Gzhel". I love the blue. It's very bright and happy. The color blue signifies love, peace, and happiness.

Ah, coming down to the final few. This has been so much fun! October. What can you say about October, except Halloween! Well, it will be my 21st wedding anniversary as well, but Halloween is a lot of fun too. :) I've been wanting to stitch Just Nan's Whimzi Poor Jack! which is a freebie that you can find on her website. The pictures don't do it justice because I'm not using my pc (it's in the shop yet again!) and between dh downloading it off the camera to his pc, then putting it on a flashdrive, then downloading it to dd#2's pc, and not being able to use the programs to adjust the pictures, it just doesn't do a thing for me. In person it really is kind of cute. All those spiders were so fun to stitch! The legs were a blast to do. Happy Halloween everyone!
